Vinyl Siding Repair
One of the great advantages that you gain as a home owner when you fit vinyl siding is that it needs relatively little maintenance and repair. However, there are situations in which vinyl siding can crack or chip - usually related to the fact that temperature differences have made the vinyl move and it has caught on the nails attaching it to the house, causing tensions in the material that cause cracks.
This kind of repair is relatively simple to tackle, but you may need a special tool from your hardware store to "unzip" the vinyl panel from its fitting. Once you have done this, you will need to remove the panel from the house side, making sure you remove all the nails from the panel. Clean the back of the panel and, using PVC glue, attach some scrap siding to the back of the crack. Replace the panel, making sure there is plenty of play in the nails so that this does not happen again, and re-zip the panel.
Sometimes this kind of repair is not sufficient, and it can be preferable to replace a panel. This is fairly easy, and as long as the vinyl color has not faded then the new panel will be indistinguishable from the old. Home owners may find this preferable to repairing a panel as it ensures the complete weatherproofing of the panel.
Repairing and replacing panels can be tricky, as you do not wish to disturb other parts of the siding; many home owners prefer to get the manufacturer or a professional to do this kind of maintenance, and as it is relatively straight forward, the cost tends to be reasonable.
