Vinyl Siding Designs
There are many different shapes, colors, and textures of vinyl siding available, but they are all essentially made of the same materials: PVC. For the most part, what you're paying for are small innovations in the vinyl siding design.
Hot Off The Press One thing to consider is that the hotter vinyl siding gets, the more it expands and softens. When any plastic product does this, it droops, but most vinyl siding designs features lighter colors to maximize stiffness and minimize expansion. While the range of colors for vinyl siding designs is limited, it is the small differences from manufacturer to manufacturer that help each product stand out in the crowd.
The Technology On The Side Recently manufacturers of vinyl siding have developed innovative vinyl siding designs that set them apart in the marketplace. For instance, there are vinyl siding designs that are installed vertically as opposed to horizontally, several vinyl designs that mimic stained wood, and some that feature built-in insulation, nail inhibitors, snap-lock installation, and even some that have fiberglass supports to increase stiffness. All these vinyl siding designs are really no better or worse than the next, but each installer has his or her own preferences.
Designed to Last So long as competition remains stiff, vinyl siding manufacturers will need to develop designs that attempt to improve the appearance and functionality of their product. Many focus instead on the overall appearance, but for the most part, only the individual homeowner can decide what is best for his or her own home.
